Planning a winter evening in Tokyo? Yoyogi Forest of Lights brings a new outdoor light-and-sound walk to Yoyogi Park from November 13, 2026 to January 11, 2027.

Before you book, two things deserve attention: your entry slot and how you will actually receive the ticket. This guide explains the prices, official booking routes and practical solutions if your card payment fails, plus where the evening fits into our 14-day Japan travel guide.

Quick answer for visitors: the event has no ticket counter at the venue. However, the current November Lawson listing supports purchases at Lawson/Ministop stores and offers paper tickets. Availability still matters: arrange your ticket before travelling to the park.

1. Yoyogi Forest of Lights: dates, hours and highlights

The cycling-course area becomes an approximately 1.8 km walking route with 17 light zones. Announced installations include Singing Tree, Floral Fantasia and Cathedral of Lights. Food and drink areas are also planned. The concept makes it a natural choice for an evening when you want to slow down and enjoy one main activity.

Hours: 5:30 PM–10:00 PM, with final admission at 9:00 PM. Booked entry windows start every 30 minutes from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Follow the window on your ticket; the 10:00 PM closing time does not extend for late arrivals.

As of this article’s check date, the event has not opened. Promotional visuals are previews, and the finished displays may differ. For the concept, route and latest announcements, use the official English event website.

2. Ticket prices and when sales open

The official Lawson event listing publishes these tax-inclusive admission prices. Check the selected date and checkout total before paying, including any ticketing fees.

November tickets went on sale October 1. December 2026 and January 2027 tickets are scheduled for October 15, 2026 at 10:00 AM JST, according to the organizer’s announcement. On October 13, a later month being unavailable can simply mean sales have not opened.

Our recommendation: decide whether your date or your budget is more important before browsing slots. An attractive starting price is useful only when it matches the evening you can attend.

3. How to book tickets online

Use the organizer’s ticket links or the official sellers below. Treat ticket payment and ticket delivery as two separate checks: a successful charge is only useful if you can show the required ticket at entry.

Check Official Lawson Tickets Check Official TBS Tickets

  1. Select the correct month and date. Match it to your Tokyo hotel nights before proceeding.
  2. Choose an entry window. Leave room for dinner, travel and finding the admission point.
  3. Choose ticket categories and quantities. Check everyone in your party before confirming.
  4. Read the collection method. The November Lawson listing offers paper or electronic tickets. Electronic tickets use Lawson’s smartphone app.
  5. Complete any account checks and payment. Only use the methods offered for that specific booking.
  6. Confirm the order in your account. Keep the confirmation and follow the seller’s collection instructions.

Lawson’s app setup requires SMS authentication involving a domestic SMS. Read its official setup instructions before choosing an app ticket. A travel data-only eSIM should not be assumed to satisfy that requirement. Paper collection may be easier if you cannot complete the app setup.

TBS is an alternative official channel. Its live checkout could not be inspected during this check, so we do not promise a particular foreign-card acceptance rule or collection method there.

4. Why ticket payments decline—and what to try

A declined payment does not reveal one universal cause. The following includes confirmed Lawson guidance and clearly identified general troubleshooting. These Lawson-specific rules should not automatically be applied to TBS.

An overseas card is not accepted

Lawson’s ticket-payment FAQ warns that some cards issued outside Japan may not work. A familiar card logo is not a guarantee of approval.

Try: ask the seller whether your card is eligible for that booking. If permitted, try another card you are authorized to use, or choose store payment when offered. Switching cards cannot guarantee success. Lawson also lists a separate overseas-issued Mastercard presale route; check its dates and eligibility instead of assuming it is a general booking workaround.

3-D Secure authentication is missing or fails

Lawson requires enrollment in its supported cardholder authentication service for online card payments. Its 3-D Secure FAQ directs enrollment and contact-detail questions to the card issuer.

Try: check with your bank that 3-D Secure is active and that the registered phone or email is current. Complete the bank’s approval prompt, then return to the seller’s page to finish the purchase. A bank approval screen alone is not your ticket confirmation.

Your bank blocks the transaction

General troubleshooting: ask your issuer whether it declined the purchase and why. Check your available balance, online/international-payment settings, entered card details and any authentication message. If your bank cannot see a transaction attempt, contact the ticket seller too; the failure may have occurred before the bank received it.

The checkout shows a 404 error on an iPhone

Lawson acknowledges an iOS issue after card authentication. Its official troubleshooting advice includes updating iOS, clearing browser history/cache and restarting, or using another browser or device. Check your order history before trying again.

Your account email triggers a payment error

A Lawson notice dated April 7, 2026 describes failures involving certain email formats after its security changes. Examples include a dot at the beginning, a dot immediately before @, or consecutive dots.

Try: if your address matches those examples, follow Lawson’s instructions to change it to a compliant address and use the appropriate retry-payment procedure. This specific fix will not resolve every decline.

Before any retry: check the seller’s order history and confirmation email. If your bank shows a charge or pending authorization but no booking appears, ask the seller and issuer to clarify the status. Avoid repeatedly creating new orders while the first attempt is unresolved.

5. Can you buy tickets at a Lawson store in Japan?

Yes, for the currently published November listing, subject to availability. It lists Lawson and Ministop purchasing and supports paper tickets. The event’s L-code is 39988. Check the official listing for your month before relying on the same options for December or January.

Lawson’s Loppi purchase guide explains the process:

  1. Find a Lawson or Ministop with a Loppi machine.
  2. Open the ticket-purchase menu and search using the L-code or event name.
  3. Select the available date, entry window, categories and quantities.
  4. Check the total and enter the requested customer information.
  5. Take the printed application slip to the cashier within 30 minutes, pay and receive your ticket.

Bring enough yen in cash as a practical backup, and follow the payment options displayed for your transaction. If paying for an existing online reservation, follow that reservation’s payment deadline as well. The slip’s 30-minute validity does not extend an expired reservation.

Allow time for the machine, any queue and the journey onward. Store purchasing is a useful alternative to an online card failure, but it does not reserve a sold-out entry slot or guarantee that waiting until arrival will work.

6. Getting there and planning your evening

The organizer lists approximately three-minute walks from Harajuku, Meiji-jingumae and Yoyogi-koen stations, or six minutes from Yoyogi-hachiman. These are access estimates; allow extra time to find the actual event entrance. Use the official access information and entrance map.

For a comfortable evening, we suggest lunch and shopping around Harajuku or Omotesando, an early meal, then an entry slot around 6:00–7:00 PM. Keep the rest of the evening flexible instead of pairing the walk with another tightly timed reservation. Explore more nearby ideas in our Shibuya travel guide.

Our planning suggestion is to leave roughly 90 minutes to two hours for the visit, including photographs and breaks. This is an allowance for your itinerary, not an organizer-guaranteed duration. Wear comfortable shoes and warm layers, charge your phone, and travel with a small bag.

The organizer confirms rain operation, with possible closures in snow or severe weather; no re-entry; no cloakroom or coin lockers; and access for wheelchairs and strollers. Check the current rules and weather update before leaving your hotel. For moving larger bags between cities, see our Japan luggage forwarding guide.

7. Add Yoyogi Forest of Lights to your 14-day Japan trip

Keep this evening within the Tokyo portion of your journey. In our published route, the Harajuku stop on Day 2 or the Meiji Jingu/Omotesando option on Day 4 gives you a sensible starting point. Replace an evening activity with the light walk instead of adding it to an already full day.

Use our 14-day Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka itinerary to see the wider route. Write your selected entry time, ticket seller, collection method and confirmation number into your planner. That keeps the reservation beside the day it belongs to, rather than buried in your inbox.

Frequently asked questions

Can foreign visitors attend?

Lawson lists standard timed admission for domestic and overseas visitors. Check the booking channel’s account, payment and collection requirements before buying.

Does a payment failure mean my ticket is booked?

Do not assume it is. Check your booking history and confirmation, then contact the seller if the status is unclear. A pending bank transaction alone does not confirm entry.

Can I change my ticket after purchase?

Lawson’s event terms do not allow customer-requested date changes, cancellations or refunds. Organizer cancellation is handled under the applicable refund rules. Read your chosen seller’s terms before paying.

Can children visit?

Preschool children enter free with a guardian, up to two per guardian. Primary-school children and younger need an accompanying guardian, who also needs a ticket. Check the age categories when booking.

Is the 14-day travel guide an admission ticket?

No. It is a separate digital planning product. Purchase event admission through an official ticket seller.
